Hidden Insights: Astrology for the week of 21 May 2017

With the sun moving into Gemini on 21 May 2017 and a new moon later in the week, Hidden Insights encourages you to explore your own paradoxes. A recommitment to the idea that communication is a magical, mystical art can assist you on your quest for liberation.

In general Gemini gifts us with the kind of light touch that enables us to engage with contradiction more skillfully. It’s an air sign — associated with the intellect — that particularly emphasizes our dependence on language in order to understand the self as well as the wider world.

While the new moon in Gemini on 25 May 2017 provides a springboard towards new levels of understanding, the Venus-Pluto square that occurs at the same time shows up in hidden agendas, illicit obsessions or power games of the heart.

While it’s not healthy to ride waves of paranoia, we’re still encouraged to look for the question behind the question in both intimate relationships and in business.

It’s important to acknowledge that the words we use are like spells we cast on ourselves and each other. With Gemini’s trickster energy abounding, we may very well slip up and give our own game away. It’s likely to be awkward, but positive: we’ll be able to see how our ways of communicating reflect and expose any obsessive or controlling tendencies.

Multiple aspects to Saturn are also in play this week, and by the weekend the Mars-Saturn opposition will be very close to exact.

With the moon approaching the same degree of Mars on 27 May 2017, be aware of the tendency to be trigger happy — especially in regards to issues of intellectual and creative integrity and freedom. Basically, we should reality check any sense of repression or expect a showdown.

The requirement for freedom at a philosophical level for individuals is supported by the Saturn-Uranus trine in fire signs Sagittarius and Aries. This long term transit provides efficient, potent fuel for all sorts of creative pursuits.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up for your sign this week:

Aries (21 March — 19 April)

This is a perfect week to cultivate a more reflective attitude towards life in general, Aries. For example: if your meditation practice has lapsed, it’s time to re-implement it. Without taking the time to gently analyze yourself or clarify your mind, you’re much more likely to crack under the pressure that this week’s transits suggest and blurt out something unfair. Or, at the very least, unnecessary.

Your new moon ritual should invite compassion in your communication.

Taurus (20 April — 20 May)

What’s most important, Tarus? Being clear on the answer to this question is critical to your success this week, and luckily you’re going to find it easy to answer. So, remember to keep it in mind, especially (but not exclusively) when challenges arise. It will compound positively: the more you have your priorities straight the more clarity you will experience and the more you’ll be able to remain in alignment at any given moment.

Your new moon ritual should involve nn object that symbolizes an essential value that you wish to honour.

Gemini (21 May — 20 June)

Happy New Year, Gemini! If I were to suggest a resolution for you it would be to be more truthful about how you feel about things. Perhaps you already realize that being honest is often too confrontational for other people to handle, and so you prefer to try to keep quiet. It helps if you remember that being open doesn’t automatically equate to being ruthless. Keep it kind and let your words demonstrate some of your hard-earned wisdom.

Your new moon meditation: Does what you say align with who you really are?

Cancer (21 June — 22 July)

You can expect a lot more subconscious stimulation than usual this week, Cancer. That being the case, it’s going to be necessary for you to carve out some safe, sacred space for you to explore what’s rising to the surface. It’s highly recommended that you capture and record your insights. There’s an important truth that up until now has been obscured for you. Listen closely or you might miss it, or worse — accidentally compound it into an unconstructive fantasy.

Your new moon ritual elements: Self-imposed solitary confinement and a mirror for contemplation.

Leo (23 July — 22 August)

You may love the notion of being self-reliant, Leo, but if you’re feeling frazzled then this week the healthiest course of action is to allow yourself to lean on others. And even if you’re not feeling frazzled you should give it a go anyway, for practice. It’s neither a sign of weakness nor strength — sharing the load is an important element of the human experience. But it doesn’t have to be heavy real-talk. It can be just as helpful to find someone to laugh at the chaos with.

Your new moon ritual should include an appointment with your most trusted allies

Virgo (23 August — 22 September)

You’ve got the chance to begin a process of reinvention for yourself this week, Virgo. It’s all wrapped up in whatever part of your life you most associated with status. Whether it’s your resume, your social media profiles, or something else about how you present yourself in public, it’s the right time to consider an update to reflect your current values. Ultimately, it’s about integrity. The more you demonstrate it, the more people will realize they can rely on you.

Your new moon ritual involves the implementation of a whole new look.

Libra (23 September — 22  October)

Remedies for any mental anguish you’re currently experiencing are ripe fruit waiting for you to pick and enjoy, Libra. Luckily, there are an abundance of trees in the garden of wisdom and knowledge. So, if you’ve exhausted the supply of wherever you’ve been getting your fill, then let yourself meander around and experiment with new flavours. A little variety in your diet can provide you with the nourishment you’ve been missing.

Your new moon meditation is one you’ve never tried before.

Scorpio (23 October — 21 November)

This new moon is gateway to something buried deep that’s usually difficult to access for you, Scorpio. You can further realize the power of your mind as a vehicle for traveling into the dark heart of an important matter. Don’t miss this chance to commune with the hungry ghosts of your unconscious as mastery here reaps innumerable benefits for your future self. This really could be a game-changer.

Your new moon ritual is an appointment with a skeleton in the closet.

Sagittarius (22 November — 22 December)

The simple truth is this: the more you accept yourself — with all your various idiosyncrasies and contradictions — the less you will project your uncertainty, shame and fear onto the world around you, Sagittarius. And while it’s nice to be accepted by other people, it’s infinitely more powerful to be self-validating. It’s entirely possible to come up with a list of all the aspects about yourself that you’re unhappy with — and then love each of them to death.

Your new moon ritual is a (self) love letter.

Capricorn (22 December — 19 January)

You won’t be able to rely on your intellect alone to keep your affairs shipshape this week, Capricorn. In fact, the most logical approach is absolutely one which brings your intuition into the picture. When it comes to making important decisions or beginning any new projects, make sure to ask yourself both of these questions: Does it make sense? And, just as importantly, does it feel right?

Your new moon meditation puts you in direct contact with a mysterious force of empowerment. Embrace it.

Aquarius (20 January — 18 February)

If you’re drinking from the fountain of youth then you’ll find your anxieties eased, your fears lessened and your spirit lightened, Aquarius. Depending on what else happens to be in your cup you may find your vision clouded, your rage stoked or your desire for revenge unparalleled. This new moon is about making a commitment to your inner child that you’ll try your best to only allow the good stuff to pass through your lips, and restrict the other poisons as best as you’re able.

Your new moon ritual invites more childlike wonder into your everyday experience.

Pisces (19 February — 20 March)

This new moon stimulates issues around the home and family for you, and so you’ll find an increased need for charisma in this area, Pisces. Taking responsibility for the quality of your magnetism can get you exactly what you want, so be aware in your everyday interactions. There’s more at stake than you realize. And you’re a lot more powerful than you give yourself credit for.

Your new moon ritual involves listening attentively while making yourself heard.
