Submissions

These guidelines concern essays, articles, personal reflections, biographies, interviews and related material. For guidelines concerning media reviews, please see the Review Submission Guidelines.

Topics

Spiral Nature is an occult resource dedicated to occult philosophy and metaphysics, alternative spiritualities, and practical magick. This can include innovative explorations of personal philosophy, religious territory and magickal practice, as well as essays focusing on more traditional routes.

While we love original content, we’re not opposed to reprinting material.  If the piece has appeared elsewhere either online or in print, please indicate so in your submission.  If it is time sensitive (such as a book excerpt) please indicate when the book will be published and we will be sure to include a link back to Amazon.com.

Format

The format of your piece should be article or essay-style with appropriate citation where required, or a standard interview format.

We do not accept poetry or fiction at this time.

Editing

Your work may be lightly edited for grammar and basic structure to ensure consistency with the look and feel of the site.

While there is a preference for conventional spelling and grammar (Crowley was erudite, not “1337″), allowances are made where alternative words are customary (TOPY’s usage of “ov” for “of,” for example).

As this website is based in Canada, please use Canadian spelling. For example, words such as “colour” and “favourite” should both contain the letter “u.”

Rights & Copyright

For new material, we ask for first web rights for the first six months, after which you can republish it elsewhere, with a note indicating it was first published with Spiral Nature.

Copyright remains with author of the piece.

Byline

Bylines should be a few sentences long (maximum 50 words), and include links back to your blog(s) or website(s), if you have them and would like to.

Submissions

Please submit your article, essay or ritual via e-mail to editor [at] spiralnature [dot] com in the body of the email. If you’d prefer to send an attachment, please query first.

If your piece is selected for publication, we will contact you for your approval of final edits prior to publication. Either way, we aim to send a response in a timely fashion.

Thanks for your interest in writing for Spiral Nature.
