Spiral Nature deals with philosophic, spiritual and occult topics, and receives over 4500-6000 hits a day, a number that is consistently rising as our reader-base grows, SN’s content-base is constantly expanding to cover new topics. We accept a wide variety of book, audio, video, and oracle card submissions for review providing they follow an occult theme. What the Hel, we’re flexible, even if they don’t, send ‘em in and we’ll see what we can do.
We review materials from publishers, distributors, authors, or anyone who wants to send something in. All solicited items received will be read and reviewed by Psyche, Wizzard and/or distributed to freelance or staff writers (if you have a preference, please state), and appear on this site. Some of these reviews also appear in magazines (for example, Psyche’s review of Aleister Crowley’s Illustrated Goetia can also be found in the May 2004 issue of The Cauldron), and most tend to appear elsewhere on the ‘net as well.
However, please keep in mind when sending audio items, I've only got capability to listen to CD or MP3 format, I no longer have a tape deck or 8 track. Records are right out. For videos, I do have a VHS player which can only read NTSC, and a DVD player which only reads region 1, though the computer can probably take other formats.
Due to the popularity of our review section, we can no longer guarantee that all unsolicited materials will be read and reviewed, but we promise will do our best to read everything that comes in. When sending unsolicited material, please also send a note to reviews [at] spiralnature.com along with the title and a bit about yourself to let us know you’ve sent something in
If you have a request for a book you'd like to see reviewed that's doesn't appear on the list, send in your request and we'll see what we can do.
Mailing address is:

Please note that all materials, once sent, will become property of Spiral Nature and will not be returned unless sent with a self-addressed envelope accompanied by sufficient postage.

Items marked in bold are an absolute must.
A breakdown is given here:
- Title:
The title of the book as it appears on the cover is a must. If the title is Visual Magick and you prefer to spell the word without the 'k' - don't. Comment on your dislike for it in your review if you like, but there's no place for editing here.
- Author/Editor:
Necessary to know who wrote it, especially as some books may have the same or similar titles. Sometimes, such as in the case of anthologies or collabaritive works there will not be a single author, but an editor - in this case, just put the editor's name rather than listing everyone who contributed a line.
- Illustrator:
Not essential for purely textual works, but nice to know if it's illustrated, and who by. If illustratons are especially significant to the work, please list.
- Publisher:
Helpful for your local bookstore or finding the book online if someone is interested in purchasing it or learning more about the work.
- ISBN:
The single most important identifying feature on a book. The only reason I did not make it manditory was because I felt that not everyone may know what this is or where to find it. It is not the UPC. It is a ten digit identifying code that lets you know much information about a book, such as the publisher, the exact book, which edition it is, etc. It's always found on the copyright page, and usually on the back of the book as well. Books published before 1964 will not have one. If you know what it is, where it is, add it.
- Pages:
Often useful to know how thick a book is, not everyone may want to rush out to buy a pamphlet based on your suggestion, no matter how wonderful.
- Copyright:
Helpful so the reader knows when this book is coming from. Please list the original copyright date as well as any subsequent reprints as some of us book geeks like to have an idea of the printing history. Much can be inferred from this.
- Revision/Edition:
Sometimes authors or pubishers will release new editions of books, revising and/or updating their content to suit social changes, this is helpful to the reader to know whether you are reading an original 'uncut' text, or one that has been modified for whatever reasons.
- Reviewer:
This is you. It's nice to know who's doing the reviewing, especially if you contribute many reviews. You don't have to use your 'real' name, in fact, if you have any security concerns it is encouraged that you do not. However, if you submit many reviews or articles to the site, it's helpful if you stick to the same name or alias.
- Contact information:
It's up to you whether you'd like your e-mail address or other contact information put along with your review. You may enjoy chatting with people about different texts or you may fear spambots. Your choice.
- Category:
Essential - I need to know where to put the review. I haven't read every book out there, there are some books I wont know where to put, though I may relocate if I think the category you chose is not appropriate. If a category hasn't been created that suits your book, and you've got an idea - suggest a new one. If you think your book could suit a couple of catagories and you're just not sure where to put it, put a couple that you think best suits. Many will cross over.
- Review:
Well, this is the whole reason you're doing this, isn't it? It doesn't have to be long, a couple decent sized paragraphs will suffice, or longer if you like. What I don't want is a simple rehashing of the book. Explain your take on it, what you liked, what you didn't - that sort of thing.
This may sound a little complicated, so please keep in mind that these are only guidelines, not hard and fast rules. You don't have to search to fill every field, only the bolded ones are absolutely essential. Have fun with it.
I don't care if someone's already done a review for a book you want to do, send it in anyway. If it's got something new to offer, then it's worth putting up too. There's no monopoly on opinions here.
All that said, send 'em in to: reviews [at] spiralnature.com.
