How did Spiral Nature come about?
How did Spiral Nature come about? Back in 1996 I was involved with a Wiccan coven called the Coven of the Moon. I created and maintained that website which was creatively titled The Coven of the Moon Website. It hosted information mostly relating to Wicca and paganism on Geocities. About a year later the coven broke up, but I still maintained the website, updating it occasionally and answering questions posed to me. Sometime in 1997 I decided that I wanted the site to broaden it's collection of information to include those of other religions, other magickal traditions, since Wicca didn't really reflect my belief models at the time (it still doesn't for those interested). I also wanted to give the site a makeover, make it easier to navagate. So I gave the site a new name, Silver Skies, and set about changing it, formating it to accomadate frames and including new information on various topics. Then someone turned me onto the wonders of Drak.net, a pagan-hosted free website without those nasty popups. Silver Skies made the move over there sometime in 1998 while I spent the time struggling to master tables. I liked the look of frames, but without the frames. (Spiral Nature still retains this look today, as I'm sure you can see.) Silver Skies still contained predominatly neo-pagan content, but it was expanding. Now there were a few articles on Satanism, as well as focusing more on magick. I decided that in 2000 I wanted my own domain. But I had also planned a trip to England for the summer and decided that came first in my spending priorities. Luckily, I was still able to finance it in early October, and planned the release date of Spiral Nature for October 31st. It was released then, but it was not as complete as I would have liked. It will never be complete, there is always more to learn and share. What I mean is that it did not contain the amount of information that I would have liked it to. Nonetheless, it was released, with some lovely new features that the Drak.net just could not compete with. An easy to remember own domain, autoresponder e-mails, FTP access, free CGI scripts, etc. Esosoft had become a God for its friendly and helpful staff, and a beautiful basic webhosting package that was actually affordable. Atomz.com had become a demi-god for its free site search engine, which has been extremely helpful in checking the page for url errors, indexing, and easy site searching for visitors. The web was a happy place. So this is its final and hopefully permanant incarnation as Spiral Nature. Now it is a growing, living site, with new articles uploaded whenever I get the chance.
Erm, honestly? When I trying to think of a name to call the latest incarnation of the information that is this site I was running into some difficulties. I couldn't continue with the name Silver Skies, since that domain name was already taken. Even if it wasn't, I don't think I would have called it that as it didn't seem to reflect what I wanted anymore. I was contemplating calling it the Runic Ring, after the e-list, but that didn't cover the range of topics that I wanted the new site to. So, with The Wizzard's help we began to seek out random name generators spewing out random names 'til we came up with ones that we liked. There weren't many. And I'm not sure, but I think The Wizzard came up with Spiral Nature without a generator, just from going with random words. Or maybe it was me. I'm not really sure anymore, there were so many interesting names floating about it's hard to tell. Essentially, it came down to utter chaos and what sounded cool at the time. I still like the name.
Me, Psyche. I code it all, wrote many of the articles found here, organize everything, etc. More information can be found about me in the personal section specifically dedicated to me. My beauftiful Wizzard created most of the graphics found on Spiral Nature. Contributions also come from many, many others, who can be found in the credits section of the site. This site wouldn't exist without their help and support.
Spiral Nature is a collection of articles relating to philosophy, spirituality, magick, the occult, and really anything else I find interesting. I feel that these topics are all interrelated, hence my desire to present them together in one coherent site rather than creat various seperate ones.
Why did you create Spiral Nature? Same reason I created The Coven of the Moon's Wicca Site and Silver Skies. I wanted to provide information to those interested, and there seemed to be a lot of interested people. There still does, and that's encouraging, it means I'm not just coding this info without purpose. Another reason that I keep doing it is a bit judgemental on my part perhaps, but a valid reason nonetheless. There are so many ugly sites on the web, that are overly heavy on graphics, or java applets, or java of any sort. Centred text where there should be simple to read justified, etc. In short, a huge host of hideous sites that are so difficult to navagate due to the page crashing on overload or the mere fact that it hurts one's eyes to behold the monstrosity that some poor soul calls their website that I needed to create something people could easily navagate and find a wealth of information. Which is what I think I've done with Spiral Nature.
Can I submit something to Spiral Nature? Of course you can. For an idea of what you can submit and how please see the Submission page.
When does Spiral Nature get updated? Whenever I can find the time. Usually there are at least a couple updates a week. If you're interested there is an e-list available to let you know of updates as they occur. To subscribe send a blank e-mail to SpiralNature-subscribe@topica.com.
Sure, that's why my e-mail address is located on the bottom of each page and at the top of each article written by me. Questions about the website itself can be sent to webmaster [AT] spiralnature [DOT] com and more personal e-mails, or e-mails related to a specific article can be sent to psyche [AT] spiralnature [DOT] com. If you'd like to make contact with someone other than me who's written an article, by clicking on their name at the top of the article where it says "By: XXX". XXX is usually an e-mail link, or a link to some other method of contacting the author.
Will you give me/do some spell(s) for me? No. If you have problems or concerns about a spell/ritual/working you have done you may e-mail me with questions, but I will not be giving you any spells nor performing any for you.
Do you make any money from Spiral Nature? Not a penny. That is, unless you're offering of course. Seriously though, this site actually sets me back a few hundred each year rather than brought any money to me. I've toyed with the idea, but the thing is, I don't want to put banner ads up, or become an affiliate of another company. It looks tacky. If and when Spiral Nature ever goes commercial, you can be sure it will be selling its own products rather than those of others. And if/when this does happen, please make excessive purchases as often as possible.
Is this the end of the FAQ then? Unless you're planning to send in a question about the site frequently, yes. If there is a question you have about the site that is not answered here, or that you feel was not answered in the depth that you would have liked, feel free to send it in to webmaster [AT] spiralnature [DOT] com.
